Minutes Report 11/24/2007
Fellow Members,
The November Henry County RC Club meeting was held at 10:00 on Saturday, November 25. Weather at the time of the meeting was 38 degrees with the wind from the north, north/east at 10 to 20 MPH. The meeting was called to order on time at the field by Wes Walton. In attendance for the meeting were the following: Randy Ficklew, Joe Walton, Wes Walton, Mike Lashly, Dan Varner, Jeff Adams, Joe Washington, Carl E. Lyle, Greg Browning, Richard F. Rousseau, Paul Korb, (new member), Erik Benson, James R. Murphy & Brett Browning. Formal and informal agenda items included the following: 1) There had been some concern among the club officers that the members participating in the helicopter activities of the club were not enjoying fully the sheltered areas provided for assembly/disassembly and therefore, perhaps the membership would authorize construction of a sixth shelter in the helicopter flight area. However, discussion with some of the helicopter pilots found that they did not share this concern and even felt that construction of the shelter in proximity of their flight area might pose an additional hazard to both flight and visibility. Since it was announced to the membership that this item would be brought to a vote in today's meeting, after discussion of the items listed above, the members present unanimously voted down the proposal. 2) A general discussion followed on the benefits of having a weather reporting station at the flying field whereby members could go on line and check actual temperature and wind conditions at the field. Everyone thought this was a good idea and a motion was made and agreed on by members present to explore the feasibility of developing such an onsite weather reporting station. Jeff and Wes will explore this possibility and report back to the membership. 3) A brief discussion followed on use and care of the fire extinguishers provided at the flying field. Some factors regarding servicing of the extinguishers was brought up, but no formal action was agreed upon. 4) We discussed the flying boundaries, especially as regards the soccer fields. The fact that the maximum southern boundary is the row of trees was pointed out and Wes said he would put out another email reminding all members of the need to be extremely careful in this area of the flight pattern. 5) A brief reminder was given regarding the December 6 Club Christmas party and the fact that it would be held in the McDonough Ryans Steakhouse. 6) A brief reminder was made that it was a Club rule that during any County work activities in the flying area (including cutting of the grass), flying would be discontinued until the workers cleared the area. 7) How and where to empty the trash containers was discussed and a reminder was given that this courtesy was extended for only Club generated refuse. 8) It was pointed out that the paved runway was showing its age and could stand either a top coat seal treatment or adding an inch of additional black top. This item fit in with plans by the officers for improvements to the field, so they said they would address this need to the County for their response. 9) Development of additional parking spaces in the recent County improvements to the west side of the road was discussed and will be addressed to the County by the officers. 10) A question was raised from the floor regarding any identification of conditions wherein permission was granted to fly on the west side of the runway. To wit. "Is it permissible to make an approach to the south end of the runway from the west, and is it permissible to make a right turn when making a takeoff to the south". The answers to both of these questions was "No". Club rules provide that the runway is the western most limit to the flight area and flight beyond this area is not allowed. The meeting was adjourned at 10:37. Respectfully submitted.
